5 ways to dress up your flip flops

Flip flops have long been flayed for being sloppy footwear for people
who can't be bothered to dress up and look nice.
To which I say, please get off your sartorial high horse.
If there's a will, there is always a way to look fabulous in flip flops.

So indulge in your casual footwear and go shop for flip flops
But first, here are five ways to look polished in your flip flops:

1. Throw on a blazer

Miranda Kerr pairs a pair of black flip flops with a burgundy pedi
a monochromatic striped dress and dark blazer.
The look is laidback but still sleek and put together.
A chain-strap purse lends extra class to this outfit.

2. Add a structured bag

Hailee Steinfeld is all grown up with her own chic style!
Here, she created the perfect summery travel ensemble in her black patent flip flops
(and complementary red pedi! See a pattern yet?), printed maxi dress, and denim jacket.
Her Ray-Ban wayfarers and structured bright red bag prevent
the look from veering into Sloppy territory and steers it into the urban-boho zone.
Nicely done, Ms Steinfeld.

3. Pile on statement jewellery

Do as Emmy Rossum did here for a smart casual look. T
he Phantom of the Opera star is a breath of fresh air in this breezy white halter dress
that allows her chunky beaded necklace to stand out.
The gilded bangle also dresses up the cute fit-and-flare dress.

On a sidenote, is it just me or does she look like Lorde here?
Either way, I LOVE her outfit.

4. Top off with aviator shades

Megan Fox does off-duty cool in her orange Havaianas flip flops,
True Religion denim cut-off shorts and ribbed tank top,
which she topped off with a grey cardigan and a Marc Jacobs clutch wallet.
The neutral palette, messy top-knot and Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses lend
an urban chic edge to the look, despite the flip flops.

5. Pair with a silky blouse

You can play with textures too! Channel Amanda Seyfried's ladylike look
with a silky blush-pink top and white skinny jeans.
The silky top keeps the look sophisticated and lunch date ready,
while the tailored fit of the jeans contrasts with the flowy top and casual footwear.

So I've made my case for flip flops.
What's YOUR take? And which is your favourite look?
